IKEA collaborates with social businesses around the world to design unique products which create jobs for people that needs it the most.
This product is made by Classical in Bangladesh – a social business which, through its production of objects in jute, creates jobs and a steady income for women in rural areas.
The decorative pattern is handwoven from braided jute fibres – a natural material with colour variations that give each basket a unique expression.
Just as decorative as practical and can be used for many different things and in several different ways to make everyday life easier.
Easy to carry from one room to another since the basket has 2 sturdy handles.
Practical size that goes just as well on the floor as on a shelf.
You can also use the basket as a shopping bag.
Let nature help you store things that you want close at hand, but not always visible.

In the MÄVINN collection we’ve consistently worked with strong colors, squares and stripes – and added a black cat as a playful twist. Being 2 designers with different professional backgrounds felt incredibly luxurious. We hope that the products will make you look twice, but most of all we want you to appreciate how the collection is created in collaboration with social businesses and skilled artisans – that there is a person behind every object.
The most exciting thing about making the MÄVINN collection was the opportunity to work with the social businesses and artisans in person where their manufacturing takes place. We started by sending a couple of sketches and then travelled there to look at the first samples. With their knowledge and experience, together we could create something even better. Meeting the people who make the products in India, Bangladesh and Jordan was an absolutely fantastic experience!
